Reason 1: To See The Jungle

After hours (days?) of flying, I've finally made it to my Peace Corps assignment in the Philippines, where I'll be spending the next 27 weeks of my life. Today is the first day in a long series of seminars on life in the Philippines, which I sorely need considering that until recently I had difficulty spelling "The Philippines", let alone finding it on a map.

My view during the combined 16-hour flights from Los Angeles to Tokyo and Tokyo to Manila. Window seats are for people who can't afford video games.

Luckily, to comfort me during the next 12 days of orientation I have internet access and a great view of the local foliage where I'm staying.

I have nothing snarky to say about this gorgeous jungle view.

And while I have no idea where I am at the moment (other than a long bus ride from Manila, the capital of the Philippines), the three cups of coffee I've had and the awesome scenery right outside my window have left me feeling elated and optimistic. Now, if only I can manage to put down FFV.

So, until next month . . .

A pre-caffeinated photo of me looking confused.
I expect to have this expression a lot.

P.S. The timezone difference between California and the Philippines is huge. Which means that if it seems like I'm posting at strange times it's due to the fact that I'm awake during what is essentially the middle of the night in the states. The timezone difference may also explain my failure to post frequently enough, my occasional overuse of sarcasm, and any weight gain/loss evident in any photos I may post.
